I heard you could get a Satyr Pet if you're a level 48 Life Student. Is that true? (Tori)
Yes, you go on a quest from Moolinda Woo. This is the same quest that also rewards you with the Rebirth spell.
Talents difference[]
My satyr in slot 9 in talents has Health Gift rather than the posted Life Shot. Could this be because I have a satyr older than the new pet updates? Kinda wish it was the Life Shot. That would be nice.

I think you are right in that because your pet is older than the pets update that it may have different Talents. I noticed that for my older helephant compared to Ninstoyer's, and its well known about the two different pedigree Hydras. I think this is an emerging pattern that we are seeing with pets. PotRoast and I are currently working to figure out how to accomodate it best in the wiki :). If you have any ideas feel free to share them, you can use the forum watercooler if you like, I cleaned up the categories to make the forums more useful (and make one exclusively targeted to wiki discussions).
